A Word From the Executive Director

In 1989, I approached several community agencies to pursue family support funding for families with children under school age. When no one stepped up to the plate, I persuaded my employer to let me apply for a grant to support this endeavor. The rest is history.

With Ray Oelkers of ISU West Pottawattamie Extension, we expanded our family support services, ISU’s teen parenting program, and added
a newborn nursing visit.

In 2007, an independent evaluation of FAMILY was done by Ounce of Prevention. It was recommended that FAMILY develop more visibility in the community. The AEA began the process of creating a separate nonprofit to create this visibility, with the separation completed on July 1, 2010. The evaluation was funded by the Iowa West Foundation.

In October of 2010, FAMILY received the Title V Maternal Child Public Health grant for Pottawattamie and Mills Counties.
The last couple of years have been full of growing pains, challenges, and successes. FAMILY is the same quality programs, staff, and management with a new look and new home.
